On October 2020 I got in a very bad work accident, dealing with wsib while healing and dealing with covid restrictions in the hospital wasn't ideal or fun. After getting turned down  more than 4x times I found OJI. I was a bit nervous to talk to them due to the fact the other firms weren't really helpful or nice for that matter. The moment we started talking I knew I found the right people, from the start very respectful and professional, didn't make me rush my story, tried to understand my situation and problems. And when they actually took my case I was still skeptical, because I was thinking they have a case now soo they don't have to answer my calls or emails and that wasn't the case with them. Thank goodness for the OJI Legal Services Team. They gave me back my dignity. After I was injured at work, the WSIB would not pay me for 11 months—even after I had (approved) surgery. In August, 2022 I was referred to Ottavio by another law firm in Toronto. From our first client meeting, I felt confident that Ottavio could meet and exceed my needs with respect to WSIB. Unfortunately, I had a serious leg injury in December, 2020 at work and following this injury I was grossly mismanaged by my employer, physicians and my WSIB case managers. Up until this point I had to continually fight to be heard, strongly advocate for myself and try to navigate my way through the medical system alone. WSIB had become extremely difficult and stressful to deal with and since this was my first encounter with them, I did not know my rights and their processes. It was only when I officially hired Ottavio and informed WSIB of obtaining his legal counsel, that things began to change in my favour. With Ottavio's help, finally all my hard work obtaining numerous specialist assessments and diagnostics and continually uploading them into the WSIB system would pay off. Eventually my accurate and serious multiple diagnoses resulting from my injury would begin to be accepted into the WSIB system. I was able to have Ottavio completely take over all correspondence with my WSIB case manager which allowed me to continue focusing solely on my health, rehab and search for surgical repair. The biggest win for me so far came in June 2023. My loss of earnings (LOE) had been unjustly cut off by my WSIB case manager and back to work case specialist. Ottavio so expertly and professionally put together an appeal and we won (approx $18,000). Even though my journey with my injury (which has resulted in serious and permanent physical and emotional disabilities) is far from over, I know that having Ottavio's expertise with respect to all matters of WSIB will help me obtain maximum compensation for my losses in a timely manner.
